My Approach

My work is humanistic in approach with a person-centred focus; this means that I will listen and value what you share and not be judgemental or directive. I build empathic therapeutic relationships that enable you to feel safe to share your emotions however uncomfortable and limiting they are so that you develop self-compassion where it may have been lacking. During therapy I may offer you gentle challenges to help you to see how you have learnt to behave in some situations. I may use creative techniques, such as simple drawing, to help shift your subconscious feelings into your consciousness when its hard to put feelings into words. I am always curious as to how people’s emotional difficulties are held physically in their bodies; we may do some exercises to recognise such somatic responses and understand how and why these feelings affect you. Whatever your story the therapy will be bespoke for you.

Practicalities

I can offer you counselling on weekdays, during the day, evening and up until 7pm.

I am based in Staithes, between Saltburn and Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast. I offer therapy in person, via zoom  and more recently ‘walk and talk’ therapy, or, ‘wheel and talk’ if you happen to be a wheelchair user; being on the coastal paths and being in the sea air can enhance the therapeutic experience for many clients.

When you enquire I will respond to you within 24 hours. I will offer you a free 30 minute phone consultation to help you establish whether you feel we could work together. During this time you may share some of your story, ask questions and discuss how we might schedule the counselling.

Practice Room

My practice room has a private entrance with free parking. It offers a calm and peaceful space for you to feel comfortable and to help put you at ease.
